During the 60’s in Rochester it was a privilege to serve as a member of local government.
We the people meant that the people could work together to make Rochester a better place for everyone.
Instead of getting to know the neighbors that moved in next door the White citizens of Rochester chose to believe the propaganda of the real estate and insurance companies and “white flight” ensued.
“Hedgehogs” needed to sell their suburban greenery while maintaining their profit margins in the city.
Capitalizing on the ignorance of the White homeowner and the new found station of Blacks to middle-class factory worker, “hedgehogs” were and still are profiting from both ends of the market.
In the “bear” economy of the 60’s real estate was the investment of reason, today it is education.
Our current system of education protects their investments now and in the future.
The “hedgehog” would have you believe that “college and career readiness” is the product of education. And, since college and career readiness is individualistic, creating an artificial norm to determine the success or failure of the system, not the individual, insures public funding to support the success of the system and address its continued failure, profiting from both.
By investing in and controlling the system of education “hedgehogs” will support and maintain the ignorance of the American public.
We must find public servants who believe that the product of an excellent education is a mature, young adult who believes that it is an honor and a privilege to serve their community and their country.
When we provide every child in America with a developmentally appropriate, Arts based, experiential education that concentrates on discovering, developing and directing their gifts and talents towards becoming knowledgeable, respectful, responsible, actively engaged citizens in their community and for their country we will have secured the blessings of liberty, for them and their posterity.
