Controversy has arisen over two undocumented aliens, valedictorians of their schools, taking advantage of the opportunities America offers without becoming citizens of this country.
It is interesting that Americans would object to anyone taking advantage of our social programs without citizenship since it is the citizenry of America that is causing its demise, not the illegal aliens who recognize, understand and respect the “blessings of liberty” to which we are entitled.
Though undocumented aliens are benefiting from America’s social programs they are still denied the one freedom that most Americans take for granted, the freedom to vote.
Citizens of these United States have the freedoms that our government secures but do little to provide the liberty that an excellent education would most assuredly guarantee.
Individuals are placing their lives at stake in order to enter a state of learning that is unparalleled in any other country; a free and public education. They are coming here to work, to learn, and to advance and all that is required is that they pledge their allegiance to a country whose own citizens refuse to do the same.
We are upset that these individuals do not take seriously their commitment to our country when we, the people, are non-committal to the responsibility of creating a knowledgeable, actively engaged citizenry.
Illegal aliens are taking advantage of the very Constitution that Americans ignore in order to make their lives better when all life would be better if we simply respected our Constitution.
Two undocumented aliens, proud of accomplishing their dream to educate themselves and provide a better life for their posterity, are realizing the American dream as their own, proving that the dream can be a reality.
When we provide every child in America with a developmentally appropriate, Arts based, experiential education that concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing their individual gifts and talents towards becoming knowledgeable, actively engaged citizens of these United States, we will again be able to be proud to pledge our allegiance to our country and others will be proud to do so as well.
