On May 10, 2016 Mark Hare ended his G4SA blog post, “Focus on the ‘norms’ not the educational outliers” with,
“But the job of public education is to develop structures, policies and strategies that result in nearly every child—90 percent or better—graduating on time and ready for work, work training or higher education.”
It may be the “job” of education to ready our children for “work, work training or higher education” however it is the “intent” of education to create a knowledgeable, informed society able to govern itself and actualize the sentiment of the preamble to the Constitution of these United States,
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
We, the people, of the United States, not we, the consumer or we, the worker, or we the ignorant, the poor, the middle class, or we the White, Black, or we, the people of color.
We, the people, all of the people, of the United States, are allowing our children to be enslaved to the ignorance of believing that our children are worth nothing more than a job or college career.
Our children are the future of our world. They are the difference between a world motivated by love or one riddled with hate.
Our children will become the elected officials who will decide to support the people who elected them to office or the profits of the “hedgehogs”.
Every child in America deserves to be educated to believe in themselves and the gifts and talents that they and others possess so that we, as a society, can work together and evolve into a world where love and happiness are more important than salary and position.
Educate means to “bring up” and “bring forth” the gifts and talents that each of us possess.
We must begin to educate our children.
