Righteousness: Acting in accord with divine or moral law.
Respect: A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
It is difficult to be righteous in your dealings with others when you have no respect for yourself.
We teach children to have respect for authority without first teaching them to have respect for themselves.
Respect begins with self and it is impossible to have more respect for someone else than you have for yourself.
We neglect to teach our children self-respect. We do not reinforce in them that before they can respect another they must first have a deep admiration for themselves because of their abilities, qualities, and achievements.
Unfortunately, when a child enters our current system of punitive education, they are not given the opportunity to discover the abilities they should admire within themselves. When a child enters our current system of punitive education they are tested to see if there is anything “wrong” with them.
They are not asked what they can do, what they like to do, what inspires them, they are tested to see what they can “not” do and then they are forced to do what they cannot.
If we do not teach our children to respect themselves, how can we ever expect them to be righteous in their dealings with others.
If we do not teacher our children that righteousness is greater than money, how can we ever expect them to be human and act humanely towards others.
There is a reason the “hedgehogs” will do everything they can to reform education but will do nothing to change the system of education so that it concentrates on the child being educated and not the money it costs to educate a child.
To reform education simply means to change into clean clothing while leaving the body filthy.
We must change the system of education so that it concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing the individual gifts and talents of all of America’s children so that they can respect themselves and others.
