Profits From Pushing Propaganda

In 1960 J. Murray Lee predicted that in twenty-five years our system of education will have changed to where, “More attention will be given to the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and creative thinking. One of our current difficulties is that so much of our elementary curriculum consists of materials to be learned by the student.”

In 1983 Howard Gardner told us about the multiple intelligences humans possess and use to help make sense of our world, giving us the ability to solve the everyday and societal problems we face.

Pearson Rips Off Students with Tests Designed for Failure – Alan Singer’s Latest Huffington Post

“New York does not pay Pearson to develop and administer the teacher certification exams. Pearson’s profits are all from student exam fees, which means Pearson makes its money when students fail. According to UUP Vice President for Academics Jamie Dangler “This means Pearson has little incentive to fix flawed exams, since they profit when students take and retake them. With four new teacher certification exams in New York State administered by Pearson, students can spend up to $1,000 or more to take and retake tests.”

The most frightening aspect of this is not that Pearson is making a profit from its tests but that the design of the tests is such that student teachers are being forced to learn and teach the propaganda of the “hedgehogs” through the common core curriculum.

Prior to No Child Left Behind, the teaching profession was concerned with discovering the gifts and talents of children through the Montessori method of instruction.

Student teachers were encouraged to use their gifts and talents to address the differentiated learning styles of their students.

In 2001 No Child Left Behind changed the face of education. We were no longer concerned about the child, America’s standing in the world economy became our priority.

All of America’s children deserve a developmentally appropriate, Arts based, experiential education that concentrates on discovering, developing and directing their individual gifts and talents towards becoming knowledgeable, actively engaged citizens who can solve their problems with love not money.
