Long Live The King

As everyone knows, former New York State Commissioner of Education John B. King was officially appointed Secretary of Education for the nation.

This should not be surprising since King has been holding down the position of “Senior Advisor Delegated Duties of Deputy Secretary of Education, a position he assumed in January 2015.”

Though people were upset that King was appointed to this position, nothing could be done.

Everyone knew that Arne Duncan was stepping down to place his children in private school, free from common core requirements and restrictions.

The opposition expressed by those who work diligently to change education in America showcase what King believes and how he will act in this position.

New York State Allies for Public Education headline reads, “US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan Steps Down – New Yorkers Declare John King No Better.”

The article points out the reasons New York parents, children, teachers, and community members rebelled against King and NYSED when he headed operations there.

As Americans we understand that the President has the power to appoint whomever he wants to positions of authority once in office.

When President Obama appointed Secretary Duncan there was very little opposition. By Duncan’s second term it was clear that he was there to carry on the NCLB agenda. King will be no different.

Fortunately, King will only be in office until a new president is elected, next year.

Do any of us know the political connections of those running for office and who will fill that position once the next president is elected?

As engaged Americans, we must be concerned with the politics of those we elect into office.

It is a persons ideals and ideas that determine their ability to lead and the direction in which they will take this country.

The direction of education must be determined by actively engaged Americans, not “hedgehogs”.

We must unite to rebel against our current system of education and change the language of education so that it concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing the gifts and talents of All of America’s children.
