The Epic of America, which was written in 1931, stated that the American dream is “that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.
Brian Ahlberg, President of Every Child Matters Education Fund, recently quotes Rick Santorum as saying, ““the principle problem affecting young people and their ability to rise and be successful is… the breakdown of the American family.”
The breakdown of the American inner city family has been orchestrated for decades by the “hedgehogs” who have had and known about this research since the Emancipation Proclaimation.
It has been the distinct purpose of our current system of education to create a class system in America that remands certain segments of the population, the “poor” to becoming part of the social services industry or working in service industries that cater to the “middle class” who survive in middle income America by having both parents working, neither able to concentrate on providing a positive family environment.
The college and career bound system of education under which our country operates, forces our children into a life of servitude, differentiated only by the value placed on the service of the position.
Education must create knowledgeable, concerned, actively engaged citizens who will work diligently to make America the country it was intended to be.
Education must create an American citizenry that works to bring peace throughout the world not domination by militaristic power.
American education must create world leaders who know and understand that a class system based on economic wealth will only enslave the populous instead of freeing us from the stress and hatred that a classist, economic system of government promotes.
When we provide every child in America with a developmentally appropriate, Arts based, experiential education that concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing their individual gifts and talents towards becoming knowledgeable, concerned, actively engaged citizens, we can begin to reconstruct the family unit and thereby strengthen the fabric of America, becoming the country we were meant to be.
