Money Matters More

“Faced with stern reprimands from Albany, the board Wednesday night abandoned two risky proposals passed last month, which were meant as a rebuke to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s education reform agenda. The proposals were met with a threat that the board could be removed from office and that state and federal funding for the district could be lost, raising the prospect of higher school taxes for residents.

Dana had hoped to build a groundswell of defiance for a movement that would sweep across the state. While several districts inspired by Ken-Ton considered similar measures, none has taken action.

My biggest hope was that other districts would join us because that would be the only thing that gave us a shot and that didn’t happen,” Dana said after the meeting, which was attended by about 50 people in the Philip Sheridan Building’s Community Room.” The Buffalo News

Solidarity of purpose is what will save our children from the destructive nature of the current system of education.

The purpose however, cannot and should not be money.

School districts, boards, teachers, parents, and children, must fight to change our current system of education from one that concentrates on the profits the industry produces to one that concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing the gifts and talents of all children.

Fighting for money that can be wasted in a system designed to mis-educate our children will not relieve the stress they feel being taught that they are no more relevant than a test score and the relevance of that test score determines their future employability and that of their teacher.

Our children deserve an excellent education that is developmentally appropriate, Arts based, and experiential, delivered by dedicated, knowledgeable adults who employ their gifts and talents in the classroom to engage and enlighten their students and guide them towards becoming engaged and enlightened adults, in a safe, nurturing learning environment that acknowledges and respects the gifts and talents that all members of the school community have to offer.

Our children must matter more than their money.
