The Journal News reports, “StudentsFirstNY, an education group that supports Common Core and charter schools, said King leaves an “extraordinary legacy.” “John King showed that if you raise standards in a smart way, students will rise to the challenge,” StudentsFirstNY executive director Jenny Sedlis said.”
The “extraordinary legacy” Commissioner King leaves behind is one of ineptitude, collusion, and corruption. The New York State Department of Education is laden with controversy yet accepts no responsibility for the decisions it makes, from recent reports of millions of educational dollars being misused by charter schools to the approval of a charter school based solely on the advice of individuals who chose not to do their due diligence in determining the accuracy of the statements provided by the school’s leadership.
The Democrat & Chronicle recently reported, (Regent’s Chancellor Merryl Tisch) “Tisch said the board only sees applications after they’ve been recommended by the state Education Department, suggesting it wasn’t the members’ normal responsibility to vet them for errors.”
To know this and then hire the leader of that corrupt organization speaks volumes to the intent of the United States Department of Education.
The function of our current system of education is becoming more transparent; to maintain a racist, segregationist, failing system of education in large urban centers across the United States while providing “middle class” students with a college and career path standardization that keeps America competitive in the world economic market, thereby making profits from the educational failure and economic success of lower and middle class Americans which keep the “hedgehogs” in the top 1%.
We must change the language of our current system of education so that it concentrates on the gifts and talents of All of America’s children.
Our United States Constitution must be amended to guarantee EVERY child in America “an excellent, free, and public education.”
When we concentrate on discovering, developing, and directing the gifts and talents of all children we will begin to move in a positive direction in education. That positive direction will lead our children and our nation towards success.
