Wait Time

More than a few years ago, teachers discovered that students had figured out, if they wait long enough before attempting to answer a question or solve a problem, the teacher would answer the question or solve the problem in the interest of saving time.

Because of this response, teachers extended their wait time to give students a chance to think and respond.

Students began to wait longer and eventually won and teachers returned to answering their own questions and solving their own problems and education became a waiting game that was constructed around time and money.

Everything that our Federal government proposes is posted in the Federal Register for public review and comment. Policies, rules and procedures that do not require legislative action can become part of the system of education simply because the public made no comment, for or against, the proposal stated in the Federal Register.

Conversely, every comment, positive and negative, is recorded and posted and if the majority of the comments are negative then the proposal is revisited, revised, or rejected.

Our government is designed to include the American citizen in its operation. It is the American citizen who has neglected to do their due diligence in making sure that our elected officials know and understand what we, the public, want for our country.

It is our voice that should determine the direction of our country. However, when our voice is silent, the sound of “hedgehog” dollars becomes very loud.

They have learned to wait us out when we rise up. They have learned to distract us with non-issues that an excellent education for All children would alleviate and eliminate.

We must change our current system of education so that it concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing the gifts and talents of All children.

We must change our current system of education so that it allows All educators to bring their gifts and talents into the classroom to engage and inspire their students to become life-long learners.

Wait time is over, we must change the system now.
