Proposed Priorities, Requirements, Definitions, and Selection Criteria-Charter Schools Program Grants to State Educational Agencies

“The Assistant Deputy Secretary proposes this regulatory action to achieve three main goals. . .

The first goal of greater accountability by supporting the growth of high-quality charter school sectors in States that have not received CSP funding in the past, thereby creating new systems of supports and increasing the funding available for high-quality charter schools in new regions. . .

The second goal of this proposed regulatory action is to strengthen public accountability and oversight for authorized public chartering agencies. . .

The third goal of this proposed regulatory action is to encourage a stronger focus on supporting and improving academic outcomes for educationally disadvantaged students. . .”

It is clear, given their own list of goals, that the United States Department of Education’s priorities are not focused on our children since they are third to the development of more charter schools and charter school accountability.

Our children must come first!

Strengthening Charter School accountability must begin with the charter schools in existence before spending education dollars on creating more failing institutions that feed the corporate “hedgehogs”.

The proposal’s “Cost and Benefit” section begins with: “The Department believes that the benefits of this regulatory action outweigh any associated costs, which we believe would be minimal.”

The benefits of the regulatory action is the creation of more corporate profits which will cost our children, exiled in public schools that are designed to fail, an excellent education.

All of America’s children deserve an excellent, child centered, developmentally appropriate, education that is founded in the Arts and experiential, delivered by dedicated, passionate, knowledgeable educators in neighborhood schools with low student:teacher ratios in classes that promote interpersonal relationships between and among all members of the school community so that everyone is appreciated for the gifts and talents they have to offer.

When we change the language of education, we will change the direction of education. When we change the direction of education we will change the direction of America from capitalism to humanitarianism.

Our children deserve to live in peace.
