A New Direction

It has been six years since Jean Claude Brizard brought the corporate Broad model of education to the Rochester City School District.

Superintendent Bolgen Vargas took over in 2011 and continued the work Brizard began saying that to continue on our current course would be more cost effective than changing to a more effective system of education that research has proven to be successful.

It is time for a new direction.

It is time that the Rochester City School district recognize that our children are more valuable than the millions wasted on the proven failure of NCLB, RTTT, and Common Core requirements providing profits to corporations that capitalize on the billion dollar federal, state, and local educational budgets.

The citizens of Rochester re-elected the Board to do a better job.

Continuing on the current educational path will only lead to more failure; not school failure, not building failure, not district failure, but the failure of our children to successfully navigate a system of education that is designed to standardize and dehumanize them.

Private schools provide small classes, individualized attention, a curriculum grounded in the Arts, experiential learning opportunities, student counseling, and a myriad of other services that the Rochester City School District could afford if it changed the direction of education for its student’s sake.

All of America’s children deserve an excellent education. An education that discovers, develops, and directs their individual gifts and talents towards becoming successful adults that exhibit leadership in their community and pride in their role as a model of their success.

In large urban areas, small, neighborhood schools that are connected to the community they serve have been proven to foster educational success.

The Federal government has a “Promise Neighborhoods” program that provides funding to LEA”S that set schools withing neighborhoods to become the service hub of that community.

We have excellent examples of these schools and programs, now we must replicate our success and provide an excellent education to ALL of our children.

Every child deserves an excellent education, wealth and luck should not determine a child’s destiny.
