Thank you to all the education activists and child advocates who have made the following accomplishments possible.
On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, the first day of the NY state ELA exams, Class Size Matters reports, “in about half of districts throughout the state, kids refused the exams. On Long Island, more than 12,000 kids opted out; in many districts and schools the participation rate dipped below 95%. In Brooklyn there is at least one school where 80% of kids have refused to take the test.”
On April 2, 2014, Caitlin Emma of Politico – Morning Education, reported, “New York state legislators made clear in their recently inked budget deal that they didn’t want student data uploaded to the inBloom database, which the Gates Foundation spent $100 million to build, hoping it would become a resource for states and school districts nationwide. So the New York State Education Department has directed inBloom to delete all data stored there to date. No additional data will be uploaded.”
Also on April 2, 2014, the National Education Association’s “Raise Your Hand” event on Capital Hill was a day-long event called, “Real-World Perspectives on Public Education” according to NEA the event, “kicked off a wave of activism across the country that will continue throughout the spring, amplifying educators’ messages and issues.”
Parents, students, and educators are speaking up and speaking out against the corporate control of our system of education.
The movement to Save our Children is gaining momentum as citizens recognize the power of their voice in the direction of our government.
There is hope, there are victories!
Our children are worth our continued efforts to work together, collaboratively, regardless of political or religious beliefs, to gain and maintain an excellent education for all of America’s children.
Now, more than ever, it is imperative we continue to move forward in the fight to change our current system of education so that it concentrates on discovering, developing, and directing the gifts and talents of ALL of our children, regardless of their color, economic status, or gender.
If we allow the subjugation of one, we accept the control of everyone.
