Achievement gap: “. . . defined by socioeconomic status (SES), race/ethnicity and gender. . . The achievement gap can be observed on a variety of measures, including standardized test scores, grade point average, dropout rates, and college enrollment and completion rates. In the U.S., research studies into the causes of gaps in student achievement between low-income minority students and middle-income white students have been ongoing since the 1966 publication of the report, “Equality of Educational Opportunity” (more widely known as the Coleman Report), commissioned by the U.S. Department of Education.” Wikipedia
In education we are defining our children by arbitrary conditions over which they have no control.
Socioeconomic status, race, and gender, middle income, white, male is what we are telling all of our children they must be in order to be successful in America.
In trying to achieve equity in education, effort, time, and money are being spent forcing our children to adopt and adapt to these artificial norms that are based on the ability of our children to accept their standardization or rebel against it.
Across the nation, our children are beginning to rebel.
We are trying to hold them accountable for the actions of the adults in their world by demanding that they spend essential educational time learning how to be a middle income white male.
Our children, ALL of our children deserve to be educated to be the wonderful human beings they were created to be.
The only thing that should matter in education is discovering, developing, and directing the gifts and talents of ALL children.
Educational excellence begins when the expectation of education is the successful transition of every child into a responsible, respectful, loving, caring, human being.
Every child in America deserves a child centered, developmentally appropriate, Arts based, experiential education that includes the whole family in a positive learning environment that allows every stakeholder in the school community to share their gifts and talents within their community, throughout their city, and around the world.
It is only then that we can expect to evolve into a higher order thinking human race.
