I AM Unique – Don’t $tandardize Me

Yesterday was the National Day of Action to Reclaim the Promise of Public Education; to educate all children so that they can become responsible citizens, able to rule themselves with integrity and respect having the knowledge necessary to engage in government through the election of those representatives that carry the message of the people.

A press conference was held where speakers from the higher education, student, parent, and teaching community agreed that there must be a moratorium placed on high-stakes testing, Common Core, and APPR evaluations as they all play a major role in a dehumanizing and demoralizing system of education that reduces our children to bits of data and our teachers to budget pawns.

Until we change our system of education so that it concentrates on the gifts and talents of all children we will not break free of the corporate concupiscence that seeks to profit from the educational failure of our children and the de-evolution of our society.

It is up to us, responsible citizens of these United States, to stand against the standardization of our passionately creative teachers by forcing them, through a system of institutional intimidation, to deliver a developmentally inappropriate, creatively inadequate, and morally reprehensible curriculum that places more emphasis on data and dollars than desire and dedication.

Teachers must be inspired to teach through their passion in order to inspire passion within their students.

Teachers must be proud of their chosen career as educators in order for their students to be proud to be in their class.

Teachers must have high expectations for themselves in order for their students to raise their level of expectations for themselves.

We must stand together, parents and educators, realizing that we are both members of the same honorable profession, teaching, having a lasting impression on the hearts and minds of our children.

That impression must be one of integrity, honor, respect, and courage those things money cannot buy.

We must stand together as responsible adults to change education for our children so that they can change our world for us.
