Public Schools – There’s No App For That

Factors that may lead to failure to thrive:
Emotional deprivation as a result of parental withdrawal, rejection, or hostility
Poverty
Problems with child-caregiver relationship
Parents do not understand the appropriate diet needs for their the child
Exposure to infections, parasites, or toxins
Poor eating habits, such as eating in front of the television and not having
formal meal times

The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act, amended by the Keeping Children and Families Safe Act of 2003, defines child abuse and neglect as, at minimum:

Any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation; or; An act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.

The big concern today is the use of technology in the classroom. Tech companies are suggesting that we give iPods to kindergarten children so that they can experience life through a four-inch screen. It has also been suggested that human teachers can be replaced by holograms that would have more information and are most definitely more cost effective that human teachers.

Childhood obesity is only one result of the inactivity of children who would rather sit and play some game on an electronic device than go outside and climb a tree and interact with other children.

No matter how many private and charter schools there are, public schools will always be necessary. To maintain that public schools are unable to provide ALL children with an excellent education is absurd. To insist that an excellent education costs more than mis-educaton is pure fabrication. To ignore human interaction as a integral aspect of human development is insane.

Our children are failing to thrive educationally and are being neglected by the system of education that they are forced to attend.

They deserve loving, caring, strong, respectful, intelligent, passionate adults guiding them towards their own success, and there is no app for that.

It is time that ALL adults speak up and stop the educational abuse of ALL children.
