In Tribute To A Visionary

Martin Luther King Jr. was a man of God. To believe in an all powerful, all knowing God, regardless of how that God is defined, is to understand that all life comes from and returns to God and is therefore precious.

The message of Dr. King was to cherish and respect all life, in order to show our respect and love for our Creator. In fact, the message of all great profits has always been the same, “Love one another!

Being that all life emanates from God, a child is a gift from God to be cherished and loved in order to show love and respect to God and for ourselves.

This means that every child given to this Earth, created in the image and likeness of God and given, out of love, the free will to choose between right and wrong, is the glorification of perfection.

To believe in God is to know His word and understand that children are the bar of excellence we must reach in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3 “And verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

We must provide our children with an excellent education that focuses on the child, understanding that every child is gifted and talented and that it is the goal of education to discover, develop, and direct those gifts and talents to the successful education of the child.

We must begin their education with the arts in order to stimulate their desire to learn and history to develop their sense of citizenry.

“This will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with a new meaning, “My country, ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim’s pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring.” Martin Luther King – I Have A Dream

Some people say Dr. King was a dreamer, but he is not the only one.

Yes We Can – But We Don’t

” Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity ” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We live in a very dangerous world today. We live in a world where people will fight against injustice by signing a bill into law that says bullying is wrong and if you get caught something, we don’t know what, will be done about it.

We live in a very dangerous world where an entire city allows a school district to get away with bullying a young girl for exercising her First Amendment rights. A city that passively stands by while the child is punished and the bullying adults are protected.

We live in such a dangerous world, at least twenty meetings by as many groups are held each month to talk about how truly dangerous the world is.

We live in a very dangerous world where sincerely concerned people are blinded by the shiny gold object of their desire while children are starving for attention, education, love, and caring as they play their X-Box and PS i,ii, or iii, getting their sights hooked on the shiny gold object, becoming blinded by the light.

These are very dangerous times we live in when people who are determined to fight the good fight, fight each other because the only good they can find is within themselves.

We are conscious of how dangerous the world has become. We blog about it, text about it, tweet about it, and facebook it. We read about it, listen to it, discuss it, and make plans to change it. And then it’s time to go home, until we meet again.

We live in a very dangerous world where ignorance reigns supreme and stupidity is the goal for the common man. A world where money is home plate, the goal post, the light at the end of the tunnel.

This world was created for us, to teach us the true meaning of life. We have the ability, strength, and power to change its direction. Finding the courage is the key.

A Dream Deferred

“Intelligence plus character-that is the goal of true education.” Martin Luther King Jr.

“Literary education is of no value, if it is not able to build up a sound character.” Mahatma Gandhi

In 1949, more than sixty years ago, Langston Hughes wrote of the desperate condition of Blacks in America. In 1963, nearly fifty years ago, Martin Luther King Jr. began to dream again that this country would realize and recognize the value of humanity and worthlessness of the dollar in comparison. A fight, involving approximately 200 young men and women at the Liberty Pole, tells us that this dream is still deferred.

It will soon be the decision of the Board of Education to select a new superintendent of schools for our district. Their offer of a huge salary plus extensive benefits speaks volumes about the type of individual they are looking for.

There is a decided difference between a leader and an illusionist. And, until now, this Board has decided to hire illusionists to run our district.

With slight of hand these superintendents have manipulated data and dollars making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Skillful in the art of prestidigitation they have cajoled and convinced this community that they have the secret to educational success all the while blaming the innocuous for the failure of the innocent.

Our children, our young men and women, are crying out for some semblance of reality to the dream they were told was attainable if they only tried hard to achieve it.

Our children, our young men and women, are entitled to an excellent education, regardless of their parents’ economic situation, social standing, or cultural background.

Our children, our young men and women, deserve a true educational leader. One that will model those characteristics that they must possess in order to be successful human beings. A leader that will demand these same qualities in those who would follow.

This community can not afford to spend critical educational dollars on illusionists. We must make sure that our Board hires a true educational leader.
