Do As I Say, Not As I Do — NOT

Tomorrow the Education Commission meets in Vestal, NY. They will hear from more “experts” in the field of education on three areas of concern:
1. The Structure of New York’s Public Education System:
2. Teacher and Principal Quality and District Leadership: and
3. Student achievement and family engagement:

Congresswomen Slaughter and Buerkle are in the area to speak with constituents concerning matters of education as it pertains to federal legislation and No Child Left Behind.

Everyone knows that not educating children is detrimental to the
entire society. Everyone knows that educating certain children to certain standards while mis-educating poor, urban, culturally distinct children, having no standards, is not working either. It is time to tell our appointed and elected leaders what must be done in the realm of education to successfully educate all of our children.

As a society of enlightened individuals whose advancements in knowledge, understanding, and technology, made it possible to land an intelligence gathering device on Mars, it should be easier to recognize that until we, as adults, learn to respect one another, love one another, cherish one another, recognize that each and everyone of us has merit and something to offer this world, and then model those attributes for our children, there is no way any change will occur in the system of education for our children.

It is our children who are suffering from our lack of direction. It is our children who are suffering from our arrogance and self-righteousness, it is our children who are suffering from our greed and lack of integrity. They are not suffering because of these things but from them. They are emulating our behaviors and growing up to become just like us and worse.

If we cannot work together to accomplish a goal as important as properly educating our children then what hope do we have of properly educating our children so that they will work together to make their lives and this world better.

When our children see us fighting for them and maybe they will begin to fight for themselves.
