The district’s graduation rate for 2011 is 49% and once again we face the disturbing reality that we have failed to properly educate more than half of our children.
For years this community has stood before the Board of Education and asked, told, demanded, that we work together to create widespread, fundamental change in the system of education in order to increase the success of our children. As recently as last week, the Board has shown that they will continue to make decisions, without regard for community involvement, that lead to failure.
It has been said before, but must be said again. We came together as a community of parents, students, teachers, and taxpayers to express our lack of confidence in Superintendent Brizard. The lack of confidence was not in the person of Brizard but in his leadership of this district.
After much controversy, the Board hired our new superintendent, Dr. Bolgen Vargas. We were informed by Dr. Vargas that he will carry out the plans of Brizard which, as recent data indicates, do nothing but lead to more failure.
How much more disrespect will this community endure before it will stand up for the cause of our children?
The All City High “program” will cost the district an additional $10,000 per student, if all 1183 students attend, more if they don’t, yet there is no money to reduce class size at the elementary level.
The Board approved remodeling our newest high school facility, forcing the community to accept a K-8 model they do not want while closing another elementary school.
The district continues to sweep the Jada Williams incident under the rug while continuing to deny other students and teachers, through methods of intimidation, their first amendment rights.
Schools blatantly disrespect parents and refuse to comply with State regulations for parental involvement by disregarding parental input and falsifying School Based Planning Team information.
This community could effect educational change, why don’t we!
Board Commissioners should listen to the community, why won’t they!
Our children are failing, how dare we!
