Does Time Heal All Wounds

There is continued confusion surrounding the Jada Williams case as no one knows exactly what is happening or has happened to the student or the teachers in this case.

We do know that instead of removing the teachers from Nathanial Rochester School #3, Jada Williams, the student, was taken away from her school and placed at World of Inquiry School #58 to complete the school year in a strange environment.

We do not know of any disciplinary proceedings that took place against any of the teachers involved in the situation. However, we do know that the district is relying on Education Law 3020a to further their decision making in this case.

Education Law 3020a states, “Within five days after receipt of charges, the employing board, in executive session, shall determine, by a vote of a majority of all the members of
such board, whether probable cause exists to bring a disciplinary proceeding against an employee pursuant to this section. If such determination is affirmative, a written statement specifying the charges in detail, the maximum penalty which will be imposed by the board if the employee does not request a hearing or that will be sought by the board if the employee is found guilty of the charges after a hearing and outlining the employee`s rights under this section, shall be immediately forwarded to the accused
employee by certified or registered mail, return receipt requested or by personal delivery to the employee.”

As this situation has been ongoing since January, it is evident that the Board has determined there was “no probable cause” to bring disciplinary measures against the teacher(s).

It is evident that the School Board is not as concerned with the rights of students as it claims to be. Many teachers, paras, security personnel, and secretaries have been reassigned pending investigation of charges brought against them, yet Jada was reassigned and not the teachers. This indicates that the Board supported the teachers in this case.

Our Board has shown that the welfare of our children is not their main concern.
