So much is being said and done in education today, everyone has their own take on what will solve the problems that we face as a city and as a nation.
Unfortunately everyone is concentrating on the symptoms and no one recognizes the disease that is killing our children. Hate.
We continue to attack things like poverty and racism as though they are the problem when in reality, they are the symptoms of the hatred invading the souls of the very youngest of our children, growing stronger and stronger with each generation. The more we deny its existence the stronger it gets. The more we refuse to acknowledge its power, the more powerful it becomes.
It is so simple. The cure for the disease of hate is love, love of life, love of neighbor, love of self; Respect, treating others they way we want to be treated, respect for life, respect for self, respect for others; Righteousness, doing what you know is right, righteousness towards life, righteousness towards self, righteousness towards others.
Throughout time the concepts of love and righteousness have been equated with religion and separation of church and state does not allow hem to be taught in public schools. That is the parent’s responsibility. We will, however, issue condoms.
Respect has no ties to religion and yet, in the public school setting, you will see little evidence of true respect. We have become a “what have you done for me lately” society. The “me” generation is in full effect and destroying the hearts, minds, and souls of our children.
Unless education begins to look seriously at this phenomenon and understand it to be the cause of the racism and poverty that we experience in America today, we will never be able to conquer this disease and save our children.
Respect for self and others can be taught in public school. Righteousness and responsibility can be taught in public school. Doing your best to be your best can and must be taught in public school.
