It’s Time For The Movement To Move!

Since Interim Superintendent Vargas took office he has met with every group that has requested his attendance and has worked with the Unions to settle contracts. Unfortunately, little more has been done to reverse the chaos created by former Superintendent Brizard. The Board of Education is still moving forward with his plans and their policies as though Brizard is still in charge.

Only three SEG members have been fired and the Chief of Staff position vacated while one hundred thirty-seven non-teaching positions were eliminated and, at last count, nearly four hundred teachers were let go.

Equitable Student Funding, larger class sizes, grade reconfiguration, and the Facilities Modernization Plan are still going full steam ahead with no consideration for parent and community concerns.

Dr. Vargas has said again and again that if we want to change what is happening we must petition the Board. He can not meet our needs as Interim Superintendent. Yet, we all know that the Board of Education has shown little respect for the voice of the community.

November 2010, April 2011, March 2011, November 2010, May 2011, October 2010. These are the dates of the last posted minutes of the different committees of the School Board. The last posting of the Monthly Business Meeting minutes is February 2011. This is the diligence with which the district keeps our community informed. We are not given the opportunity to speak at all committee meetings nor are we made privy to or given documentation of committee meeting agendas and information should we attend these meetings. As well, the minutes are inaccurate and untrue.

Our school district has gone unchallenged for far too long. Major decisions are being made without the knowledge or consent of parents and community members. We have been gracious and respectful to those who would shut us out of the system that mis-educates our children for profit.

Several groups have formed to work with the district to improve the educational conditions of our children. As a community, we have been patient. We have done our due diligence. We have been ignored!

It’s time to take action!
